MSNBC Is Reinforcing Negative Gender Stereotypes. Shame, Shame, Shame.

Or, I don’t normally notice or care about this kind of thing but the hypocrisy was sickening so I had to point it out.

This new promo from the PC police squad better known as MSNBC for their show Morning Joe:

Why is the woman singled out as being the “responsible” one in this video?  Is that meant to be making fun of men?  Is this supposed to be a win for women?

Because from where I’m sitting it looks like the same old barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen repurposed to the tenets of modern corporate life.  How I’m reading it is that they are trying to recast the same dialogue, i.e., “boys will be boys,” as a negative–oh, look at those irresponsible MEN, versus a postive, an excuse, or a neutral observation of reality.

So…let’s think about this.  The men are out all night carousing and having fun and still make it to work on time and thus presumably continue to hold down jobs.  The woman, on the other hand, is stuck at home all night with the kids (while husband is out carousing and having fun with her co-workers?), has to get up at 4 a.m. to make lunches for her kids, feed the pets, and go for her weight maintenance run before she gets into full make up and perfectly coifed hair for a 6 a.m. show.

I don’t know what your values and prerogatives are, but to me it looks like a bullshit division of life. Why can’t the woman be out gambling and drinking till all hours?  Cause, yeah, woo being responsible–in that context it just makes responsibility look like chains.

  1. You’re right.

Unfortunately, that’s the real world. Women do all the work while men screw off. I hate it, but I can’t change it.

  2. Join the revolution! Screw off with ’em! 🙂
